FIRST DRAFT
a sci-fi space exploration game
After global warming and human expansion had ravaged the planet Earth, mankind was forced into seeking new habitats. At first their vision was small, settling in space colonies slowly heading for Mars. Earth was eventually stabilized but man continued to expand and seek knowledge. After centuries of space exploration new planets were identified and explored and mankind, finally, made contact with alienkind. What resulted was The Amalgamated Alliance, an organization which sought to bring together different species, cultures, universes and timelines and combine their knowledge and technologies for the benefit of all.
For you, it was a day just like any other... until it wasn't. Some people panicked and hid. Others stared in shock to the skies as down descended a medium-sized spacecraft. Communication was difficult at first but an interpreter well-versed in language barriers helped to convey the message. They're here to survey the planet, offer any help if needed in exchange for taking a few recruits with them as they left. They're looking for fighters, navigators and anyone with any skills that could be considered useful.
They described - as best as possible - a mothership which is a beautiful colony in itself. It has everything one could want for; beautiful housing, restaurants, clubs, entertainment and even a park. Every time a new culture is encountered, it's incorporated into the mothership until it's rich and full of life.
The the Amalgamated Alliance is made up of teams of two; one FIGHTER and one NAVIGATOR. Each team has their own 2-person spacecraft, piloted by the Navigator while the Fighter operates the on-board weaponry. For those not inclined to war PERSONNEL such as medics, cooks, mechanics and other civillian work are needed to ensure the mothership runs smoothly and morale is high.
Navigators and Fighters will climb the ranks, starting as trainees being taught by a mentor in the simulators until they're ready for action. After their mentor has approved them, they become juniors at which point they have to decide whether to navigate or fight. They will be assigned to navigator/fighter teams at random until they find a partner that they want to permanently team with. Once locked into a navigator/fighter team, a promotion to senior is awarded and they're assigned trainees to mentor. At the senior level, unrestrained access to the entire mothership is granted and mission requests can be made to the higher ups for return home trips. The highest level is captain which is achieved after 5 successful missions. Captains can hand pick their subordinates and accept missions at their discretion.
EMPYREAN SEQUENCE is a space exploration panfandom RP with heavy influence from the Starfighter webcomic, Star Trek original tv show and the movie Interstellar. It isn't your average jamjar. It's up to you as the player whether your character joins willingly, or if they're forced by someone else's hand. Maybe your world is in trouble and they offer your service in exchange for help from the Alliance, or your skills are so desirable that the Alliance refused to leave without you. With hard work, characters are able to come and go with the approval of their captain.
this is a work in progress!
- this will NOT be a sex game, however sex will be allowed. i guess you can call that "sex friendly" but i will not advertise it as such.
- game will have character caps only to keep the ratio of navigators to fighters even as possible. for example, i may have the original cap at 30 fighters, 30 navigators and 30 personnel. after both navigators and fighters reach that cap, it will be raised in equal increments.
- i am looking for input. please please PLEASE leave questions and comments down below, let me know what you're looking for in a game, i want to know.
- game's plurk is
empseqmod so please follow that!
and generally thinking aloud
- we'll be adding another character type that's not affiliated with the Alliance; sovereign entities. this will allow for characters to have more control, create their own factions and recruit people to their agenda, and can be afilliated with the Alliance or not. we're hoping to give villainy characters a chance to be antagonistic with this mecahanic!
- prison! the alliance will have some sort of prison system for sovereign entities that oppose them and get in the way, as well as Alliance members that do anything egregious. consequences can be as easy incarceration, and as intense as power nerfing/memory loss thanks to substances available to them and even torture if there's information the Alliance wants to gather from them.
- we'll be open to canon and OCs. only one version of each character will be permitted unless there's a reasonable argument for how different they are. an example would be that comics and movie Steve Rogers is arguably the same character and book and bbc show Sherlock Holmes are arguably not the same. no CRAU will be permitted, sorry.

How does the worldbuilding handle canons where spacefaring or dimension hopping is already common?

- were you planning on the game having a fixed run time?
- how much of an overarching plot will there be/how much impact will player characters have on the setting?
- what constitutes as a 'successful mission'/how do you imagine missions being RPed out — large logs can get unwieldy, so will there be an additional mechanic in place to work out the progress and direction of missions? (edit: woof, by which i mean — like, potentially pre-establish the outcome or whatevs, and then it can be threaded out without — necessarily — massive time constraint concerns?)
- character powers/abilities: nerfed or nah?
- related to the app process, and only asking because of the whole 'what you're looking for in a game', but: were you imagining a standard dwrp app or were you thinking of going a little more unusual? (fwiw, i've really come to enjoy slightly 'different' app processes a la
unrelated to mechanics, but asking for a friend (it's me, the friend is me): obvs you mention a cap in terms of keeping numbers even, but will there be franchise caps etc/how do you anticipate dealing with canons such as mcu vs comics? both in terms of cap and in terms of like, "duplicate" characters.

- on opening, is the timeline pretty linear as described in the overview? meaning that characters apped in are considered new recruits/trainees, and we play out their ranking up to junior and their random team assignments leading up to senior? or is it going to be a more in medias res thing where characters are allowed to app in at different stages of ranking? (obviously not looking to vault straight into captain territory first thing, just trying to ballpark how much room for plotting there is!)
- for teams, is that oocly randomized too, or do we get to choose?
thanks much, this looks rad!
